Hello! I'm Jennifer Wright, a licensed and former English and French teacher of eight years, offering students quality coaching in writing, reading, vocabulary, grammar, spelling, test prep, accent reduction, and French. Being a former classroom teacher to grades 6th-12th with experience tutoring elementary students as young as pre-K 4, I've got valuable knowledge regarding positive behavioral management, national standards, research-based strategies, and a wealth of curriculum, engaging exercises, textbooks, novel units, and more.
As a tutor, I use IXL, Scholastic's digital magazines for primary and secondary students, classic literature, and nonfiction texts to provide students with text-based writing assignments that cover all modes of writing including argumentative, expository, analytical, and narrative. With IXL's comprehensive library of interactive exercises for grades K-12, covering test prep and all ELA standards and tests for each state, I can provide great refreshers and advanced learning opportunities for grammar, reading, writing, spelling, vocabulary, and phonics along with custom-course plans for test preparation using previous scores. I also use Scholastic's digital magazines to provide students with interesting passages in vivid colors on fun stories and topics. I also have and can obtain units for most middle and high school novels. One of my student-favorites is my writer's notebook which offer a year's worth of writing tasks in all modes with a variety of text types, including two-text prompts. From my years of teaching, I also have digital curriculum and textbooks for grammar, vocabulary, writing, spelling, and reading along with a lot of fun activities like escape rooms, reading cards, and out-of-the-box graphic organizers. In other words, I have a little bit of everything to find the right lesson to target learning goals that pertain to your specific goals.
Each lesson is dyanmic and engaging with warm-up exercises in sentence work using the Writing Revolution method of taking a model sentence from the passage and anlyzing its structure, grammar, and literary devices for comprehension and analsis before emulating the elaboration techniques in the student's own writing. I do IXL and critical thinking warm-up exercises. Then, I facilitate a mini-writing lesson before the student applies in their writing task during the session. I can also provide students with a lengthier text for them to write outside of the session and have many options for homework.
I love teaching English as much I love teaching French. Born and raised in French-speaking Louisiana, I have a deep love for the langauge. I offer an entire course on core French vocabulary, grammar, and verbs with speaking cards, games and fun exercises. As a former French I, II, and honors teacher, I have a full library of engaging French resources and curriculum which I use to provide students with quality instruction. I also off free, premium accounts to the number-one language-learning site used by teachers where you can practice your pronunciation and recall with fun games and more.
Overall, I provide a comprehensive wealth of resources, strategies, curriculum, and assignments to offer students the help they need to succeed in school and life. You can contact me using the link at the bottom of the page, and I hope to speak to you soon!
